ADRA's RESPONSE

Who is Affected?

  • Local Bhotiya and Budhera tribal communities.
  • Smallholder farmers, tourism workers, and families who depend on apple, potato, and red-bean (rajma) farming.
  • Livelihoods have been shattered overnight

The disaster occurred in a fragile Himalayan ecosystem- The Bhagirathi Eco-Sensitive Zone

  • Helicopter rescue operations are limited by weather
  • Limited healthcare access for the injured

 

Rescue efforts continue amid damaged infrastructure, ongoing rainfall, and urgent humanitarian needs for food, shelter, hygiene, and psychological support.

ADRA India’s Immediate Response

  • Monitoring ground conditions via partners and local bodies
  • Planning a field assessment when district access improves
  • Identifying urgent needs: Food kids, medicines, water, hygiene supplies, and psychological support
  • Supporting humanitarian coordination across agencies and authorities
