Building Vaccine Confidence in the Early Phase of Bridge-UP

When the Bridge-UP project began in 2024, the real challenge wasn’t access – it was trust. In many villages, fear and misinformation had kept families from vaccinating their children.

Sakira, a young mother, had avoided vaccines for her one-year-old son, Bilal, who was often ill. “After one shot he got a fever,” she said. “I thought vaccines made him worse.”

Through regular visits, the local ASHA worker and ADRA India’s team listened, explained, and gently addressed her fears. They helped her see that a mild fever was normal—and that children like Bilal needed vaccines the most.

Sakira finally took Bilal for all his missed doses. When the fever came again, she didn’t worry. “Now I know why,” she smiled. “He’s healthier, and I tell other mothers too.”

In the early days of Bridge-UP, change began just like this—with one mother, one conversation, and one brave decision to trust.

Bridge-UP, implemented by ADRA India with UNICEF, works across 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh to strengthen routine immunization and reduce zero-dose children.
